Vitamin B3 (Niacin)

What is it?

Vitamin B3 is water-soluble, meaning that it is soluble in water. This vitamin is synthesized by the body but is not stored. It is therefore necessary to have dietary intake to cover the needs.

Things to know!

A deficiency in vitamin B3 is manifested by pellagra: it is a disease associated with a corn-based diet in America. Corn contains niacin that is not available to the body. This disease is characterized by muscular weakness, dermatoses, but also signs of dementia in the most serious cases. Note that this vitamin is also called vitamin PP for “pellagra preventive”.
